The excitement over U.S. Rep. Ron Paul’s possible entrance into the primary race for the GOP presidential nomination continued to build Thursday as a standing-room-only crowd at the University of New Hampshire heard his stump speech.
Some in the crowd of more than 550 held up Ron Paul 2012 signs or wore home-made T-shirts with a similar theme, the
New Hampshire Union Leader reported Friday.
During his 30-minute speech, Paul touched on the many subjects he has been touting for years: eliminating the Federal Reserve, big cuts in government spending, and withdrawing troops from foreign countries.
Paul, a tea party favorite, said he thinks “people are starting to wake up” to his ideas. He criticized not only President Barack Obama’s policies but also his own party. Republicans are talking about cutting funding for National Public Radio yet they continue approving billions for troops in Afghanistan.
"It just strikes me as totally inconsistent and not addressing the subject," he said.
