Poll: Romney Holds Formidable Lead in NH

By    |   Thursday, 22 September 2011 11:34 AM EDT

As former governor of Massachusetts, New Hampshire is virtually a home state for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The state also plays well to his moderate views.

So it’s no great surprise that a new poll from Suffolk University/7NEWS (WHDH TV) shows Romney with a strong lead in the nation’s second caucus/primary state.

The survey of likely voters in New Hampshire’s primary indicates Romney has 41 percent support. Texas Rep. Ron Paul placed second with 14 percent, followed by former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman with 10 percent, and Texas Gov. Rick Perry with 8 percent.

“Mitt Romney is saying ‘get out of my back yard’ and making New Hampshire his strong firewall despite showing some weakness in the other states’ early primaries,” said David Paleologos, director of Suffolk University’s Political Research Center.
