Republican presidential front-runner Mitt Romney received an important endorsement Friday as begins an all-out push to win the Iowa caucuses, from former Iowa Gov. Robert Ray,
Politico reports.
Ray, a key moderate figure in the state, had a 14-year run as governor. While the other Republican candidates are focusing on the conservative bloc in Iowa, the former Massachusetts Gov. Romney is obviously aiming at the center.
Ray took part last year in a failed attempt to turn back a conservative effort to vote out three Iowa Supreme Court justices. Two of the other Republican presidential aspirants — Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich — were part of the winning campaign.
