Millionaire publisher Steve Forbes is predicting that Mitt Romney will win the presidency and Republicans will retake the majority in the Senate.
Forbes, who twice ran unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination, not only shared his predictions for the 2012 election in interview with the
Las Vegas Sun, but ventured a prediction that the city’s economy, which was hard hit by the recession, would come back strong.
“I see Republicans doing well despite the tough contest,” Forbes said. “Mitt Romney will win, and President [Barack] Obama will once again discover the adage, ‘It’s the economy.’ Republicans will also win the Senate.”
Forbes, who endorsed Texas Gov. Rick Perry early on because he favored a flat tax, said Romney has “more substance today than when he took to the trail a year ago.”
But he said the Massachusetts governor “has to project substantive proposals with a Reagan-like air of upbeat optimism” in order to win.
Forbes, who was in Las Vegas for a speaking engagement at the University of Nevada, also said the mainstream media would be “sympathetic to President Obama” during the campaign. But he suggested there would be plenty of other ways for Romney to connect with voters.
“There’s a whole lively world in the blogosphere, and that’s not going to be captured in traditional surveys or news clips” Forbes told the Sun. “But a lot of people dialogue that way, and it will play an increasingly important role.”
