New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has hit the road again for Mitt Romney, heading out this time for Colorado where he plans to help raise money for the Republican presidential campaign and meet with fellow GOP governors.
According to Newark Star-Ledger, Christie will be joined in Aspen by fellow governors Nikki Haley of South Carolina, Scott Walker of Wisconsin, Louisiana’s Bobby Jindall, and Virginia’s Bob McDonnell.
Nearly all have been talked about “at one time or another” as potential Romney vice-presidential running mates, the newspaper noted..
Officially, the governors will be in Aspen for quarterly meeting of the Republican Governors Association Executive Roundtable. But the quarterly gathering this time will feature some campaigning and fundraising on the side for Romney, who was member of the group when he served as governor of Massachusetts.
Christie, one of the first Republican governors to endorse Romney, has already raised $3 million for the likely GOP presidential nominee from New Jersey donors alone. But he’s put his fundraising abilities to work as well in other states, where he has often appeared with Romney.
Asked before he left for Colorado about Romney’s so-called “gaffes” during his visits to Great Britain, Israel, and Poland, Christie said he wasn’t surprised by any of it.
“When you’re running for president they make a big deal about everything that comes out of your mouth,” Christie told reporters. “That’s the way it goes, but I don’t think Governor Romney is surprised by that. He’s been running for president for six years. He understands.”
