The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree has been chosen. A giant Norway spruce from State College, Pennsylvania, will make its way to the plaza next month, CBS New York noted.

The tree will officially be cut down on Nov. 9 and would arrive at its new home in New York City two days later, where the massive task of decorating will begin.

The tree, which will feature more than 50,000 lights and be crowned with a Swarovski star, will officially be illuminated on Nov. 29 and will stay up for display until Jan. 7.

Leading up to the big unveiling, Rockefeller Center teased the public with several cryptic social media posts before sharing information about the tree, providing hints about where the spruce would come from.

"Days are spent listening to fans cheer on their team at a football game for which the home team’s mascot & nearby mountain share a name," one post read.

"It is here that the largest university creamery can be found but this location is most known for its blue & white devotion, just ask around!" another tweet said, before the final post revealed the giant Norway spruce would be welcomed from State College.

The lighting of the Rockefeller tree draws tourists from around the world to witness the event, however, Time magazine noted that the tradition stemmed from humble beginnings.

It all began on Christmas Eve 1931, during the Great Depression, when a group of construction workers decided to erect a 20-foot tree on the site that would become one of the city’s most notable monuments.

The first official tree-lighting ceremony took place two years later, thanks to a Rockefeller Center publicist who organized it.

The concept stuck and has grown dramatically over the years to become one of New York’s most celebrated annual events.
