The Rock's grieving fan, who lost his mother and sister in a car accident last week, got a personal video message from Dwayne Johnson this week.
Angelo Pizarro, 18, took to social media in an attempt to reach out to Johnson, who he hoped would record a special message for the funeral, and the wrestler-turned-actor heeded the call, CBS News reported.
In the video, Johnson said he came to know about Angelo Pizarro's devastating loss when he switched on his phone and was bombarded by "thousands and thousands of tweets" circulating the boy's plea.
Angelo Pizarro's mother, Aileen Pizarro, and sister, Aryana Pizarro, were both killed in a high-speed crash last week when a driver hurtled down a Southern California interstate in the wrong direction, CBS San Diego said.
The funeral is scheduled to take place on Sept. 8, and Angelo Pizarro hoped to get a personal message from Johnson, who was an icon to his mother, to play at the memorial.
On Saturday, Angelo Pizarro posted a photo of his mother posing next to a movie poster depicting Johnson's face on it with his plea.
"My beautiful mom who passed away loved @TheRock so so SO much," the tweet said. "I'm trying to get him to do even a video saying her name for the funeral. If you could retweet the crap outta this for him to see it that'd mean the world. Thank you!"
The post soon went viral and drew the attention of Johnson, who replied with a personal video message.
"I believe from what I'm told, your mom was a very, very big fan of mine," Johnson said in the clip, according to CBS News. "So, anyway man, I am sending you so much love and light and strength your way, from my family to yours."
Johnson thanked Angelo Pizarro for reaching out to him and in an emotional moment, sent his condolences to the family.
"I'm so sorry to hear about your sister and your mom and this tragic loss that you and your family are going through," Johnson said. "And, if your mom could see me now, which I'm sure she can, I just want to thank her for all the love and being such a big fan."
Angelo Pizarro expressed his gratitude on Twitter.
"I hope everyone knows how amazing you are," he said to Johnson. "I can't stop smiling knowing she's smiling so much. Just, thank you. And again thank you to every single person who viewed my post."
News of Angelo Pizarro's request was widespread, and also prompted singer Alessia Cara to honor his sister in a personal video, CBS News noted.
"I am so, so sorry. hopefully this helps you in any way," Cara said in a post to Facebook.
