Actress Rita Wilson on Tuesday said the anti-malarial drug touted by President Donald Trump made her "completely nauseous" and warned people should be considerate about chloroquine as it had "extreme side effects."
Wilson and husband Tom Hanks were given chloroquine after being diagnosed with coronavirus last month.
"I had vertigo and I could not walk," she told Gayle King on "CBS This Morning."
"My muscles felt very weak. I think people have to be very considerate about that drug. We don’t really know if it's helpful in this case."
Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine are drugs derived from the quinoline molecule. Trump has called the drug a "game changer" and told reporters it is "looking like it's having some good results."
Still, there is no proven treatment for the coronavirus and the respiratory disease it causes.
Wilson and Hanks recovered from coronavirus in Australia, where they were diagnosed after experiencing "some body aches," "chills," and "slight fevers."
Wilson said the pair are part a study where "we donated our blood, and we're waiting to hear back if our antibodies will be helpful in developing the vaccine."
