Grammy winner Ricky Martin creatively nixed an Internet death hoax that he died in a car accident by uploading a photo of a beach scene on his Instagram account Sunday, writing “Hello from #heaven.”
He uploaded a second photo of his silhouette near a beach at sunset, saying, “#Sunset in #heaven.”
Unlike many of hoaxes perpetuated online that come about from fake newspaper articles or online reports or even tweets, Martin’s death report was an entire video pieced together to look official.
The video included a car crash and a supposed interview with Australian swimmer Ian Thorpe, the Independent said.

Fans reacted online as the initial reports that the singer might be dead circulated.
The Washington Post debunked the story with a simple headline, “Ricky Martin Is Not Dead,” and by pointing out how badly dubbed the fake video is. The newspaper also speculated that the images Martin put on Instagram were from Culebra, Puerto Rico.
Hello from #heaven.
