Santorum, Cain Woo Iowa GOP With Eye to 2012

Republicans in Iowa turned out Tuesday to hear two lesser-known possible presidential candidates for the GOP ticket, reports the Sioux City Journal. Rick Santorum, a former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, and Herman Cain, a businessman, spoke at a fundraiser.
 
Cain in particular has little name recognition. "I want to hear his positions on energy policies for the country,” Kevin Kirwan of Sioux City told the newspaper. “That is my main concern right now. We need to become less dependent on Middle East sources.”
 

Cain said the country has changed course from when Democrats controlled both the White House and Congress, and lauded grass-roots efforts such as the tea party movement. Both he and Santorum said the country can’t continue under the leadership of President Barack Obama.

Santorum said he would lead on social issues and the effort to reduce federal spending.
 

"God gives us rights that no man, no government can take away," Santorum said.

He criticized Republicans who focus on economics and avoid social issues.

"America is a moral enterprise. You think God gave you this right, just so you can make money?" Santorum said.
