Rick Reilly Dropped After Being Bench Pressed by NFLer Steve Weatherford

By    |   Tuesday, 04 November 2014 07:12 PM EST

ESPN writer Rick Reilly was benched pressed – and dropped – by New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford.

Reilly took part in the stunt while filming an ESPN feature touting Weatherford, 31, as having the best body in the NFL.

“But can the Giants’ super punter do something nobody’s done? Could he bench press the press?” Reilly challenged in the segment.

Weatherford said he has bench pressed 375 pounds. Reilly weighs about 190.

The stunt ends with Reilly being dropped and toppling to the floor. As MSN Sports points out, "Because Reilly is a person and not a barbell, Weatherford struggled to keep him balanced.”

Reilly tweeted about the stunt.

Weatherford began strength training in high school and gained 117 pounds of muscle in four years, according to Reilly’s profile of Weatherford on “Monday Night Countdown.”

“It’s my passion,” Weatherford said of fitness. “That’s my drug. Some people smoke cigarettes. Some people like to eat. Me, I like to work out,” Weatherford said.

Twitter users seemed amused by the stunt.
