Rick Ducommun, known for his screen-stealing work in "The 'Burbs" and other Hollywood roles in the 1980s and 90s, has died at 62,
according to Variety.
Ducommun died due to a "serious complication from diabetes," his wife, Leslie Ducommun, told
The Hollywood Reporter. He was a native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and began his career in stand-up before he started winning roles in Tinseltown.
The Canadian native captured the role as Tom Hanks' antagonistic neighbor in 1989's "The 'Burb" from Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas, said director Joe Dante.
"(Ducommun) knocked (the role) out of the park," Dante told Variety of the actor's "The 'Burbs" performance. "Lots of the funniest stuff he says was totally ad-libbed."
Ducommun played the electrician who shut down the power grid to the Nakatomi Corp. building in Bruce Willis' "Die Hard" in 1988 and appeared in 1991's "The Last Boy Scout" with Willis and Damon Wayans, said THR.
Variety said Ducommun also had movie roles in "Groundhog Day," "Scary Movie," "Little Monsters," "The Hunt for Red October," and "Last Action Hero." His television appearances included "Moonlighting," "The Last Precinct" and "Murphy Brown."
Celebrities and fans shared condolences for Ducommun on social media.
