Musician Richard Swift died Tuesday in Tacoma, Washington, of an unknown health condition; the prolific composer, producer, and performer was only 41 years old.
Swift helped produce such critically acclaimed records as “Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Sun” by Damien Jurado and “City Music” by Kevin Morby, according to Spin. He also released several psychedelic folk solo albums, “Dressed Up for the Letdown” in 2007, and “Atlantic Ocean” in 2009.
More recently, Swift played in several indie rock groups including The Arcs, the Shins, and the Black Keys.
Swift was hospitalized in March in Tacoma for what his family called in a GoFundMe campaign a “life-threatening condition,” but a recent update said doctors were “pleased” with his progress and treatment.
The musician was born in Utah and raised there as well as in Minnesota and Oregon before moving to Southern California to pursue music.
Fans and fellow musicians said they would sorely miss Swift's talent and gave their condolences.
