Richard Salamon, a Florida resident who serves as city manager of Sunrise, may be terminated from his $204,000 job after he threw a fit over an expired coupon for a free Bundt cake.
Salamon reportedly asked an employee at Nothing Bundt Cakes to honor the coupon even though it was expired, and when she refused, Salamon let them know he was unhappy and his wife blasted the bakery on Facebook, Herald-Mail Media reported.
Bakery owner Dannie Augustin alerted the city to Salamon’s bad behavior, which took place about two weeks ago, and city commissioners debated on Tuesday about whether to terminate him for the tantrum, the Herald-Mail reported. A special meeting was set for July 5 to determine the commission’s course of action.
Salamon has been city manager since January 2015 and has been a commissioner for 25 years, Herald-Mail Media reported. At least one commissioner, Mark Douglas, has called for him to resign over the matter.
Salamon has not commented on the matter, the Sun Sentinel reported.
Another commissioner, Larry Sofield, was dismayed over how Salamon’s actions would reflect on the city and wondered whether Salamon’s employees would be able to respect him going forward.
“I can’t believe a $4 coupon has got us here today,” Sofield told the Sun Sentinel. “This is a little bit of a black eye on us. This is not what we are about at all.”\
The city of Sunrise, Florida had a population of 93,734 in the 2016 census, City-Data.com reported.
