Supermodel Bar Refaeli is suspected of tax evasion after authorities in her home country of Israel accused her of failing to report millions of dollars in income from abroad.
Refaeli, one of the world's best-known supermodels and former girlfriend of actor Leonardo DiCaprio, is also accused of lying about her residency in order to skirt paying certain taxes,
Israeli's tax authority said, Agence France-Presse reported.
"The 30-year-old model is also facing allegations that she lived in Tel Aviv apartments while the rent contracts were under other members of her family's names, and that she received a Range Rover and Lexus in return for publicity work — none of which were
declared to the tax office," CNN reported.
According to CNN, Refaeli was questioned by authorities for 12 hours this week over the alleged tax evasion. Her mother is also being investigated.
The mother-daughter duo deny the allegations.
"We contend that this is a civil problem regarding the topic of who is an Israeli citizen and everything that is associated with this," their lawyers said in a document from the Tel Aviv Magistrates Court obtained by CNN.
A Tel Aviv court ordered Refaeli and her mother to surrender their passports and neither are allowed to leave the country without permission for 180 days, according to AFP.
"Refaeli and her mother are also suspected of receiving 'celebrity discounts' which should have been reported as income, such as on the interior design of Refaeli's apartment and when [mom] Zipora bought an apartment," the news site stated.
