Jars of Reese's Spreads hit stores on Friday, offering customers a spreadable version of the popular peanut butter cups, and once again proving there's no wrong way to eat a Reese's.
"From toast and waffles to apples and bananas to pretzels and vanilla wafers, the new spreads add that distinct flavor and brings endless opportunities to just about any snack,"
the company said in MarketWatch release.
The new 13-ounce jars of peanut butter-chocolate goodness retail for $3.89, which is cheaper than a box of Reese's Puffs breakfast cereal.
Some have said the new orange-topped jars are a Nutella killer, but
Chicago's WGN-TV reminded readers that Nutella has a strong base of support, and even love songs dedicated to it. Moreover, Nutella isn't truly a direct competitor — it's a hazelnut-chocolate spread, not a peanut butter chocolate spread.
The potential battle between Reese's Spread and Nutella could be waged for decades if it does come to pass, however, as sides might be drawn geographically: Peanuts are not loved by Europeans, and peanut butter is often hard to find in overseas grocers. Across the Atlantic, Nutella is ubiquitous and dominant.
In the interest of giving Reese's pieces a chance, however, we're willing to set aside the Nutella debate for another day, and celebrate with Twitter users, who are actively applauding the big day.
