A Reese's Peanut Butter Cup with no peanut butter drew a "sweet" apology from the company after an Iowa man found the unusual mistake in the product in April, according to the website The Daily Meal.

Alex Hentges, of Dubuque, Iowa, went on Facebook with a photo of the botched Reese's Peanut Butter Cup with no peanut butter three months ago. He found the deviant candy in an insurance office where he worked, he told the website.

"That is where the disaster happened," Hentges told The Daily Meal. "All in all, there were about six peanut butter-less peanut butter cups."

With so many errant peanut butter-less cups, he was able to upload a video of one of them being unwrapped to convince doubters that the mistake wasn't faked, the website said.

"Yo Reese's what gives? Where's me peanut butter? April Fools was almost 2 weeks ago!" Hentges wrote on Facebook about the peanut butter-less cups.

The Hershey Company, which owns Reese's and various other candies, responded by promising Hentges some coupons, The Daily Meal said. The company, instead, sent Hentges a package filled with Reese's products, including dark-chocolate peanut butter cups, the website said.

"Sometimes we like to remind people that you need both chocolate AND peanut butter, together, to have the perfect candy," Hershey said in its note to Hentges, per The Daily Meal. "This was one of those times and you were the unlucky person. Now that we made our point, here's enough chocolate and peanut butter to make everything cool between us."

Hentges told The Daily Meal that he was "extremely shocked" by the five-pound Hershey care package after being promised just coupons.

"My wife, my kids, and I only ate a few of the candies as there was over five pounds of Reese's," Hentges told the website. "I took the rest into work and my coworkers ate them all within a couple days."

The "Today" show reported this week that at least one other person found a peanut butter-less Reese's as well.

A Reese's representative told "Today" Food that they are still scratching their heads over the mistake.

"We're still not sure how exactly the peanut butter mysteriously vanished, but everyone knows it can't be a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup without the peanut butter, so the brand had to make things right," the representative told the morning show.
