Reese Witherspoon has created a buzz with the #AskHerMore campaign to get reporters at the Oscars to ask women about their work instead of their wardrobes.
“This is a movement to say we’re more than just our dresses,” Witherspoon told ABC’s Robin Roberts during the Academy Awards. “There are 44 nominees this year that are women, and we are so happy to be here and talk about the work that we’ve done. It’s hard being a woman in Hollywood, or any industry.”
The campaign was started in 2014 by the equality organization The Representation Project. Objections to coverage on the red carpet have included a protest by actresses of E! Entertainment’s “Mani-Cam” feature, which was left out of this year’s Oscars.
Witherspoon posted about the movement on Instagram before her red carpet appearance.
The post drew a response from Roberts.
The movement drew widespread support on Twitter.
