Monster truck owner Cole Geeo of Texas is being hailed for his “redneck rescue” of neighbors stranded in flooded homes on Monday.
Heavy flooding in Parker County, Texas, left Deborah Wright stranded on her second-floor balcony before Geeo came to the rescue in his eight-foot-tall monster truck,
WFAA-TV reported. At the time, the Brazos River was about 4.5 feet above flood stage.
"That's a redneck rescue I do believe," Dina Young Gray, Wright's co-worker at Millsap Independent School District, told the station. "That’s just how Millsap is. We just look out for one another."
“If this didn’t work, we were going to get a boat,” Geeo said.
The station captured the rescue on video, showing Wright climbing down one ladder and then up another to get in the truck.
At least six people have died in flooding brought on by heavy rainfall in the Houston area,
The Houston Chronicle reported. Storms knocked out power to about 120,000 people in the region and pushed 13 of Harris County's 22 creeks and waterways beyond the banks.
While emergency officials urged stranded residents to dial 911 rather than risk a “redneck rescue,” the unusual rescue drew widespread attention and praise.
Even comedian Jeff Foxworthy, known for his “you might be a redneck” jokes, posted about it on Facebook.
Twitter users also chimed in about the encounter.
