Country music star Reba McEntire is reportedly returning to television with "Desperate Housewives" creator Marc Cherry who has created a script for a drama.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the McEntire project is currently untitled and in development at Disney-owned ABC. The website described it as a Southern Gothic soap opera that takes place after a terrorist act happens in a small Midwestern town and cocky FBI agent with a Middle Eastern background who is sent to investigate finds secrets he doesn’t expect.
Cherry will be executive producer and showrunner, and partner Sabrina Wind will also be involved, THR said. McIntire will get credit as an executive producer.
There is no date set for the show to air.
McEntire previously starred on the WB/CW comedy “Reba” for six seasons and on “Malibu Country” on ABC. She is currently playing a series of shows with Brooks & Dunn at Caesars Palace into 2017.
Cherry was developing a “Phantom of the Opera” reboot last year, but it never came to fruition. His former show, “Devious Maids,” also aired on ABC before moving to Lifetime.
