A sketch comedy show on BBC2 is under fire for a "Real Housewives of ISIS" skit that poked fun at the women of ISIS by spoofing the "Real Housewives" reality shows.
The sketch appeared on BBC2’s show “Revolting,” and supposes a Syrian location where women have moved from the U.K. to join the Islamic State.
Some viewers didn’t think the jokes about suicide vests and female oppression were funny, while others appreciated the politically incorrect humor, said Fox News.
The two-minute excerpt has been viewed more than 10 million times since it was posted on the BBC2 Facebook page Wednesday, and it has been shared more than 200,000 times.
In the clip, a housewife shows a suicide vest with explosives to her friends, and one posts on Instagram, “Hashtag, OMG, hashtag Jihadi Jane, hashtag death to the West, ISIS emojis!” according to Fox.
Another wife sports a chain connecting her to a stove and says, “Ali bought me a new chain which is 8 foot long. I can almost get outside, which is great.”
Housewife "Zaynab" tells the camera, "This is my sixth marriage — I’ve been widowed five times." After a bomb blast is heard, she revises, "Six times."
Creators Heydon Prowse and Jolyon Rubenstein told I News, “You can’t go after David Cameron for five years like we did and not go after Islamic State.” Rubenstein said that the show was attempting to go after online grooming, which led to British-born terror suspect Samantha Lewthwaite and others from around the world who have left Western countries to join ISIS. https://inews.co.uk/essentials/culture/television/revolting-bbc-satirists-tackle-extremism-real-housewives-isis/
