Rat Head Golden Corral: Diner Bites Into Surprise in the Chili

A rat head with curly ears and a snaggle tooth was reportedly found in the chili at a Golden Corral in Florida by a man eating dinner with friends and his young son last week, but the company said it is still trying to verify the claim.

Billy Wilson, 36, told WFTX-TV he was dining at the Golden Corral in Cape Coral where he eats at least once a week when he noticed biting into something unusual in the chili.

"The first bite I took out of it was a crunch, and at the time, I was like maybe, you know, sometimes you get a hard bean inside of chili," Wilson told the television station, saying he spat out what turned out to be a rodent's head.

"When I seen it, I just went into the bathroom and threw up," Wilson told WFTX-TV. "Ugh, I just couldn't get the taste out of my mouth. What'd it taste like? It was just nasty."

Wilson told the television station his friends called a waitress and then a manager over who took pictures. He said he felt ill the following day and went to a hospital emergency room where he was treated for gastroenteritis and prescribed four medications, including for nausea and muscle spasms.

"I brought the rat up to the ER and they were all horrified, also," Wilson told the television station. "They couldn't' believe it."

Golden Corral corporate office issued a statement saying it is investigating Wilson's claim, according to the New York Daily News.

"While we continue to look into the matter, we have been unable to confirm the alleged incident at our 410 Andalusia Boulevard location," a Golden Corral spokeswoman said in a statement. "We remain committed to delivering a high-quality food and guest experience in a clean and safe environment."

If the foreign object in chili sounds familiar, Anna Ayala made national headlines in 2005 by claiming she found a severed finger in chili she purchased from a Wendy's restauran. Ayala served four years in prison after an investigation turned up that she actually planted the finger in the chili, noted the newspaper.
