Only 19 percent of Americans strongly approve of the job President Barack Obama is doing, matching the lowest performance score yet of his presidency among likely voters, according to Tuesday’s Rasmussen Reports daily presidential tracking poll.
The last time Obama’s approval rating fell this low was on April 11.
Overall, 42 percent of 500 likely voters surveyed overnight by Rasmussen say they strongly disapprove of the president's performance, giving him a presidential approval index of minus 23.
The Rasmussen index is calculated by subtracting the number who strongly disapprove from the number who strongly approve.
The overnight poll found that 45 percent of those who identified themselves as Democrats strongly approve of the president’s job performance, while just 4 percent of Republicans and just 8 percent of unaffiliated likely voters shared that sentiment.
