An injury to Arizona Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson reminded football fans how violent the sport can be — he lost the top of his left middle finger during a play in Sunday’s game.
The announcement that there was serious injury came from Kent Somers, sports writer at The Arizona Republic, who put on his Twitter account:

Somers later corrected the injury to be on Johnson’s left hand. He updated:
Somers reported in an
article on AZ Central that Johnson could play this weekend, depending on his pain level and healing.
Somers tweeted a Monday update on Johnson’s finger and slipped in a joke, although it’s unclear if Johnson said the quoted words:
Two other Cardinals were injured Sunday: Lorenzo Alexander and Sam Acho, both of whom will be out for the season, AZ Central said.
“Injuries happen, this is the NFL,” Coach Bruce Arians told Somers. “No one plays with the same 22 guys all the time. You hate for them to happen at the same position, but that’s usually the way it happens.”
The Cardinals lost to the Saints in the high-injury game, 31 to 7.
The team seemed to have more than its share of bad luck this weekend. Another devastating tragedy hit Cardinals’ nose tackle Dan Williams hard. His family was involved in a car accident on the way to see him play and his father was killed, Somers reported. Williams is listed as inactive, and he was not at the game.
