Ranjeet Singh commands the streets of Indore as a moonwalking cop, busting out his eclectic moves while conducting traffic in the city of two million people in India.
It’s impossible to miss the upbeat 38-year-old traffic cop who throws some impressive dance moves into his daily routine of waving traffic through the busy intersections in city’s center, NDTV reported.
"I have been a Michael Jackson fan for years and copied his moonwalk step to halt traffic 12 years ago," said Singh, per The Daily Mail.
"Initially, people were surprised, but it worked wonders over the years and has gained popularity."
The moonwalking cop has become a social media phenomenon, having shot into the limelight two years ago, and now he has a following close to 50,000 on Facebook.
"It's a tiring task maintaining traffic amid noise pollution and reckless motorists but moonwalking amuses commuters and drivers," he said.
It seems that Singh’s moves are contagious, with some of his colleagues reaching out and requesting dance lessons and tips.
“I instantly approached him for some tips as soon as I got my job,” said Sumant Singh Kachhawa, per RT. “It’s real fun to control traffic in that manner and at no point of time I feel bored.”
Superintendent Anjana Tiwari added that Singh “has been exceptional in sharing his style with his colleagues.”
In the end, Singh said, his motivation is to keep road users safe, something which is pertinent in the gridlocked roads of India.
"I have picked up the bodies of over 40 youngsters after accidents over the years and I feel terrible," he said, per the Daily Mail
"I just want youngsters to stay safe and follow rules."
