Sen. Rand Paul's epic filibuster was closely followed on social media on Wednesday with Americans reacting mostly in to good humor to the nearly 13 hours of non-stop talking put on by the Republican from Kentucky.
Many Twitter users cheered Paul on as the clock ticked, making quips about the length of his speech.
Others made jokes about Paul ending the filibuster by saying that he needed to pee.
The filibuster netted Paul 40,000 more Twitter followers, thanks to members of his staff live tweeting from the Senate floor.
The filibuster was part of Paul's crusade to prevent the confirmation of President Barack Obama's counterterrorism advisor, John Brennan, as director of the CIA. Rand was opposing Attorney General Eric Holder's refusal to rule out the use of unmanned drones in targeted assassinations on American soil in "extraordinary circumstances."
"I will speak until I can no longer speak. I will speak as long as it takes, until the alarm is sounded from coast to coast that our Constitution is important, that your rights to trial by jury are precious, that no American should be killed by a drone on American soil without first being charged with a crime, without first being found to be guilty by a court," Paul said.
