A "Ramadan appropriate" fashion show in Saudi Arabia saw women models replaced by drones flying through the air with items shown off at the event like ghosts, RT.com reported Thursday.

Organizers billed the show, which happened during Arab Fashion Week last month, as "Ramadan appropriate" as the pieces flew down the runway where models would have shown off the items, RT.com said.

The website, which called the model-less fashion show "bizarre," said the show was similar to that done by Dolce & Gabbana in February, when the Italian fashion house targeted millennials.

Ramadan, which is being recognized May 15 through June 14, is Islam's holy month of fasting, introspection, and prayer, according to History.com. During Ramadan, Muslims do not eat or drink from sunrise to sunset and are supposed to avoid impure thoughts and bad behavior, the website said.

The website The New Arab wrote that the floating designs appeared to levitate down the runway as they were carried by the drones, where some on social media called it a fashion show for ghosts.

The New Arab said the fashion show was another reason Saudi residents should doubt efforts by crown prince Mohammed bin Salman to install reforms to liberalize the ultra-conservative kingdom.

Others, though, hailed the move, saying that it kept women from "prancing around in frocks" in front of their male audience while allowing them "to do better things with their time," The New Arab wrote.

Some on social media made fun of the fashion show.
