Police swarmed the hotel in Antwerp where Belgian soccer star Radja Nainggolan was staying after guests there mistakenly reported that he might be a terrorist.
Police, however, immediately recognized the midfielder who was in Antwerp Tuesday after his team's match against Spain was canceled because of terrorist threats, said
Sports Illustrated, quoting Belgian newspaper La Dernière Heure.
"Apparently, I have a scary look," said Nainggolan. "Fortunately the police recognized me immediately."
The 27-year-old soccer player took the mistake good-naturedly, taking photos with the police officers that he posted online, saying police were called because he was "acting suspicious":
Nainggolan, whose father was Indonesian, said the
Mirror, was at the Antwerp Radisson Hotel relaxing with his family. In many cities in Europe, people were on edge after the attacks in Paris.
"The dude looks more like a rock star than a terrorist!" one person commented on the Mirror's article.
Despite the seriousness of the terroristic threats, some online have been aggravated about the problems its causing the soccer world.
Reuters said a German soccer game was called off on Tuesday after terrorist threats were received claiming the game would be bombed. The country's Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere told Reuters the threat was credible and the game should have been canceled.
