Queen Elizabeth II appeared in public Sunday for the first time since missing regular appearances at church on Christmas Day and New Year's Day because of a lingering respiratory illness.

The queen attended St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham on Sunday, accompanied by Prince Philip, Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton, the Independent reported.

The publication stated that Queen Elizabeth, 90, became ill days before Christmas preventing her and Prince Philip, 95, from traveling to their Norfolk estate from Buckingham Palace.

"The queen, who wore a royal blue coat and matching hat, arrived by car at St Mary Magdalene Church with Prince Philip just before 11am this morning," Daily Mail writers Emily Chan and Alex Matthews wrote.

"The monarch, who also wore black gloves, was seen covering herself with a blue blanket as she left the church in her Bentley after spending the best part of a month indoors. The Duke of Edinburgh, 95, who looked dark around the eyes as he also recovers from a heavy cold, accompanied the Queen to church on the Norfolk estate today," they continued.

Princess Anne said during New Year's Day services, according to the Daily Mail, that her mother was feeling "better." Sources told the Daily Mail that the queen had developed a "hacking cough" and did not want to disturb other worshipers by attending church on that day.

The Daily Mail wrote that even though she has cut down her travel and appearances, the queen has remained in generally good health.

Claire Foy, the British actress of "The Crown," who won the Golden Globe for best performance by an actress in a television series drama Sunday, recognized Queen Elizabeth in her acceptance speech.

In 2015 Queen Elizabeth became the Britain's longest reigning monarch, beating out her great-great-grandmother when she surpassed 23,226 days, the BBC News noted.

"Inevitably a long life can pass by many milestones – my own is no exception – but I thank you all and the many others at home and overseas for your touching messages of great kindness," the queen said then.
