The prosecutor in the Eric Greitens case is "apparently under FBI investigation for bribery," Breitbart blogger Steve Hantler said.
The allegations come after the Missouri Political News Service published an exclusive report based upon information submitted by a whistlebower that said St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner and her office are under FBI investigation.
Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens was indicted earlier this year on felony charges for allegedly taking a nude photograph of a woman he was having an affair with in 2015.
However, the mistress testified Friday that she was not sure if she had even seen a camera or phone and that she may have dreamt it.
"I don't know if it's because I'm remembering it through a dream or I — I'm not sure, but yes, I feel like I saw it after it happened, but I haven't spoken about it because of that," she said, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Greitens' attorneys also claimed that the prosecution did not possess "any photograph that forms the basis of the charges," and "nor has the prosecution provided any evidence that K.S. ever saw such a photograph. Nor has evidence of any transmission been provided," Fox News noted.
Now reports have emerged that the Circuit Attorney fighting to put Greitens behind bars is under investigation for bribery relating back to a 2016 case in which convicted child rapist Marc Lazar was arrested for two felony counts of selling liquor without a license, the Missouri Political News Service reported.
According to the report, Lazar offered Gardner millions of dollars of what would have been sales tax if her office dropped the case.
When Gardner allegedly failed to immediately rebuff the bribe and then all charges against Lazar were later dropped, suspicions were raised.
Hantler pointed out that the situation could have been avoided if Gardner had not "dragged" the woman with which Greitens had an affair into "this mess against her will."
He wrote that the woman's lawyer had asked for privacy but that the prosecutor brought the indictment anyway.
"So just to recap for the fans at home: a Democrat prosecutor who brought a charge against a Republican governor on the basis of a dream a woman had is under FBI investigation for bribery," Hantler added.
