The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association has launched a new radio ad calling California Gov. Jerry Brown’s ballot initiative to raise taxes “snake oil,” according to the
Sacramento Bee.
The ad also criticizes Brown and California lawmakers for approving the construction of the state’s $68 billion high-speed rail project and argues the Proposition 30 initiative provides no new funding to schools.
“What Proposition 30 really is ... is a massive
tax increase they claim is for our schools. But even the California School Boards Association says the initiative provides no new funding for schools. None," the ad declares.
The ballot initiative, which was endorsed by the association, would raise the state sales tax and income tax on California’s highest earners.
The association has acknowledged that Proposition 30 does not provide new funding for schools. But the association argues it bolsters the general fund with new revenue, which would prevent further cuts to the education budget.
