Priscilla Presley served as the matron of honor for an Oregon couple who became the first to be married at the new Elvis Presley Graceland Wedding Chapel at Westgate Las Vegas on Thursday, and the whole ceremony was broadcast live on NBC's "Today" show.
Kaycee Satava and Cameron Baker, both Elvis Presley fans, won the special wedding package from "Today," and their ceremony kicked off the day-long celebration of the new Elvis Exhibition and theater show called
"The Elvis Experience," according to the Las Vegas Sun.
"I was immobile and forced to lie in bed from medication when I was a child fighting a health condition," Satava told the Sun before the wedding. "I became an Elvis fan listening to his music and watching his movies. 'Love Me Tender' is my favorite Elvis song, and we'll play it at our wedding."
Priscilla Presley surprised the couple when they were checking into their Las Vegas resort before Thursday's wedding with an offer to serve as
Satava's matron of honor, according to "Today."
"I would love it. I would absolutely be honored," Satava said.
Baker told KGW-TV in Portland that having an Elvis themed-wedding with Priscilla Presley was a dream come true.
"I've wanted to marry her for years now," the groom said. "I haven't had the opportunity to do so. We've made plans and it's always gotten pushed back. And everything involved in this is something I could never do for her. I could never have Priscilla be at her wedding . . . Everything incorporated is our dream."
The newly decorated Elvis Presley Theater in Las Vegas was designed to replicate Presley's performances from 1969 to 1976, according to the Sun. "The Elvis Experience" will include 24 musicians, eight choral members, and actor Martin Fontaine.
"We'd been thinking about this for years," Pricilla Presley, Elvis' former wife, told the Sun. "He loved Las Vegas, and it was just right as the International, the Hilton and now the Westgate came together. It was such an important part of his career."
Elvis Presley performed more than 600 sold-out shows during his seven-year residency in Las Vegas, according to the Sun.
