Two construction workers got more than a royal eyeful when they once caught Princess Diana sunbathing naked on the rooftop of Kensington Palace. They handled the situation like true gentlemen though and simply bowed and turned away, according to a royal author.

The revelation comes from a palace insider who worked for the British royals and who shared a few juicy stories with British author Tom Quinn, who recently released a new book titled "Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir From Queen Mary to Meghan Markle."

"It’s surprising,” Quinn told Fox News in a report published Thursday. "I was more surprised than anyone when I discovered — you know, there are so many stories about the late Diana, Princess of Wales. I thought, 'Well, there can’t be many more that people haven’t heard.’ But in talking to various people, I found some wonderful stuff."

Among the anecdotes was one of how Diana liked to sunbathe in the nude on her rooftop garden of Kensington Palace. She thought the area was private and safe from the public eye but little did she know.

"She loved sunbathing," said Quinn. "This was the ‘90s. There wasn’t so much worry about cancer scares and so on. She used to sunbathe on a flat roof at Kensington Palace."

The garden was surrounded by screens but Diana did not notice that one of them had been removed, according to the author.

"So she stood up with no clothes on and then immediately realized two builders who were working a hundred yards away. She was eye to eye with them. They’d seen her standing up and no clothes on. And the two builders immediately just bowed and turned away," Quinn explained.

Not all the stories shared by Palace insiders were amusing though. It is alleged that Diana and her then-husband Prince Charles often used to argue and their raised voices would echo from their apartments through Kensington Palace.

"You could hear them rowing almost from the day they moved in," a former communications staffer said.

Quinn described how the couple was "almost maneuvered together" because Diana was "from a very ancient English family" and Charles "needed someone who was young" to have his children.

"I’m not sure they were well-suited, but they were maneuvered together by the royal establishment," he said.

Diana did find happiness with her boyfriend Dodi Fayed after she and Charles divorced in 1996. The two were an item when Diana died the following year from injuries sustained from a car crash in Paris. She was 36.

"I think Dodi made the last year of her life happier than they would have been," Quinn said. "The royal family certainly disapproved. The establishment was very nervous about this [relationship]. I think the royal family was in despair, to some extent, because this wasn’t something they could control."
