Members of the British royal family are looking back on Prince Philip's life as preparations for his funeral continue. Family members took to social media to release never-before-seen photos of the Duke of Edinburgh.
Prince William and Kate Middleton's Instagram account shared on Wednesday a photo taken in 2015 at Balmoral Castle of Prince Philip standing with Queen Elizabeth II, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte.
"Today we share, along with Members of @theroyalfamily, photographs of The Duke of Edinburgh," the caption read. "Remembering him as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather."
The royal family also shared a photo from 2018 of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth with their great-grandchildren.
"The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh surrounded by seven of their great-grandchildren at Balmoral Castle in 2018," the photo was captioned.
Clarence House posted photos showing Prince Philip's connection to Prince Charles on Twitter.
"Remembering The Duke of Edinburgh as a much-loved Father and Father-in-Law," the tweet read. "Members of The Royal Family are today sharing their memories of The Duke."
Prince Philip died on April 9 at age 99. He spent four weeks in the hospital earlier this year for treatment for an infection to have a heart procedure, but returned to Windsor in early March.
"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh," the palace said in a statement. "His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."
The funeral is planned for Saturday, April 17. Only 30 people will be participating in the event due to the coronavirus pandemic. Prince Harry has arrived in London while his wife, Meghan Markle, who is pregnant, remains at home in California.
It has now emerged that Harry and Prince William will not walk side by side in the procession following mounting tension between the Duke of Sussex and the royal family. Instead, the brothers will be separated by cousin Peter Phillips. When the coffin arrives at St George's Chapel, William will move ahead of Harry as the royal mourners enter in pairs.
Meanwhile, the queen has officially returned to her royal duties. She attended a ceremony at Windsor Castle for Lord Chamberlain Earl Peel, who has retired as the royal household’s most senior official. He oversaw arrangements for Prince Philip's funeral until handing over to his successor days before the duke’s death.
