A pregnant mom knows how April the Giraffe feels as people wait for her to give birth after a Facebook video of Erin Dietrich with a giraffe mask on went viral, garnering more than 26 million views.
In her Facebook video, Dietrich, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, spoofed the social media interest in April the Giraffe, who is waiting to give birth at the Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, New York.
"As tens of millions of fans across the globe await the most-anticipated giraffe birth in recent memory – or ever – the upstate New York zoo home to the now-famous April says her adorers may not have to wait much longer," WNBC-TV said Monday of the waiting game live cam viewers have been playing waiting for April to deliver.
While April, the 15-year-old giraffe, which has been pregnant for 15 months, has kept her viewers on hold, the pregnant Dietrich posted her Facebook video Sunday. The mock video showed the expecting mom in a bedroom spending time sitting, standing, staring into the camera and then dancing briefly.
"We ordered the mask off Amazon on Friday and it just got here today," Dietrich, who listed herself as a photographer, said on her Facebook post Sunday. "Clearly we live an exciting life over here in the Dietrich household."
Detrich, who is 39 weeks pregnant with her fourth child, expressed astonishment by the interest it attracted by Sunday night.
"… I did not think this many people would get a kick out of this," Dietrich wrote on Facebook. "All our friends have been making fun of me and my obsession with April so we just thought 'hey we should order a giraffe mask.'"
Social media got a kick out of Dietrich's imitation of April as she waits for her child.
