Wondering what time polls close by you in order to get your vote in on time? Curious about when polls close, allowing results to flow?
A day's worth of voting wraps up Tuesday evening, with many of the key battleground states closing their polls by 8 p.m. EST.
Although
exit polls are already starting to appear, actual results in the 2012 presidential election won't roll in until the first polling stations close their doors.
In Florida, the majority of polling stations close at 7, but locations in the Panhandle end an hour later. In 2000, controversy ensued when some TV networks declared Al Gore the winner at 7:50 p.m., before voting in the state had concluded, specifically in the Republican heavy portion of the state that site in the Central time zone. In ensuing elections, news organizations have been cautious not to repeat the same mistake.
In Ohio, considered the key battleground state, voting closes at 7:30. Thirty minutes later, Pennsylvania will wrap up.
The latest polling stations close at 1 a.m., when voting in Alaska is complete.
