Pokemon Go's latest update makes way for its first-ever in-game event planned from Oct. 26 through Nov. 1, and the theme will be Halloween.
Users of the game will be able to earn extra candy and catch more Ghost Pokemon during the event, according to Time magazine. Although promotional event details mention using the app while trick-or-treating, the event will span several days so that users do not need to put themselves at risk at night.
The Pokemon featured in the event include Drowzee, Hypno, Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Zubat, and Golbat, according to SlashGear. The extra candy includes twice the Pokemon Candy for each Pokemon caught, twice the Pokemon Candy from Professor Oak for transfers, and four times the Pokemon Candy from Buddy Pokemon.
Pokemon Company Marketing Director J.C. Smith said, “The excitement of Pokemon’s 20-year celebration continues this Halloween with the first-ever in-game Pokemon Go event. “We anticipate seeing many Pokemon-themed costumes during this anniversary year,” according to SlashGear.
Pokemon Go surpassed $600 million in ad and in-game purchase revenue in September, only 60 days after it launched, making it the fastest app to do so, SlashGear reported. Although game-playing has dropped off by up to 80 percent since its peak in July, many faithful users remain.
Its recent update also had other minor changes, like changing the color and pattern of eggs depending on the distance it takes to hatch them and adding type icons to each Pokemon’s info screen. The app will also now notify users when the battery of their optional Bluetooth Pokemon Go Plus accessory is low.
