The Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles sold for nearly $100 million, and Playboy Enterprise founder Hugh Hefner is included the deal, which stipulates the 90-year-old will live out his remaining days at the mansion.
The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday the closing of the sale to neighbor Daren Metropoulos, who co-owns Hostess Brands, maker of Twinkies, Ho Hos and Ding Dongs. The deal was first reported in June, when it was under contract.
The $100 million price tag is believed to be the highest amount ever paid for a Los Angeles home, The Wall Street Journal reported. It was listed in January for $200 million. While Hefner is living at the mansion, Playboy will pay Metropoulos $1 million a year for upkeep.
Metropoulos, 33, is a principal at Metropoulos & Co., a private-equity firm owned by his father.
Built in the 1920s, the mansion sits on five acres. Playboy bought the 20,000-square-foot Holmby Hills mansion in 1971 for $1.1 million, Reuters reported. It became known as the site of wild parties.
Metropoulos bought the adjacent home in 2009 for $18 million. Hefner's former wife raised their two children there. Metropoulos eventually plans to rejoin the two properties, creating a 7.3 acre compound, which will be used as his private residence.
"For the last 45 years, Mr. Hefner has imbued the estate with a rich and storied legacy. The property's heritage is not only that of a famous address; it is a true masterpiece in design," Metropoulos said in a statement, according to CNN.
The mansion includes 12 bedrooms, a catering kitchen, wine cellar, home theater, tennis court, swimming pool, and a large grotto. A four-bedroom guest house is also located on the property.
