The 143 passengers and six crew members were removed from the plane and transported back to the terminal, and the plane was moved off the runway by about 12:30 p.m., according to ABC News. Passengers had to leave their belongings behind on the plane.
There was no ice on the taxiway or runway, and the temperature at the airfield was above freezing, a spokesperson said, ABC News reported.
Tests on the pavement showed it meets the standards set by the Federal Aviation Administration for safety. Skid marks were observed on the taxiway from the plane’s attempt to stop.
No injuries were reported from the incident, according to Fox News.
The FAA said it would investigate what caused the plane to skid. Other flights continued to operate as the plane was emptied and removed.
The passengers on the Southwest flight were put on a different plane and arrived in Montego Bay about three hours behind schedule. The plane was delayed more than an hour before it slid on the taxiway.
A Facebook post from a BWI traveler around 11 a.m. said emergency crews were “everywhere” after the incident.
