By    |   Friday, 20 February 2015 10:42 AM EST

Pitchers and catchers started reporting to their teams this week as spring training kicked into gear in anticipation of the 2015 Major League Baseball season.

The world champion San Francisco Giants welcomed their pitchers and catchers to spring training on Wednesday along with four other teams – the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates, according to SpringTrainingOnline.com.

Position players will begin arriving next week and by the end of the week, all the Major League teams will have their full squads in spring training for workouts.

Some of the Giants expressed their excitement to get back to work on social media.

The Boston Red Sox, one year removed from a World Series championship, will not only be trying to shake off several feet of snow from its home to warmer temperatures in Fort Myers, Florida, but the lingering effects of a subpar season last year.

"Red Sox Nation should be excited about the pitching staff, in particular, because it is a telling sign that they are taking this spring training seriously," wrote Brandon Nickel of Sports Illustrated's FanSide.

"Everyone wants to eliminate the nightmares of last season, including the new acquisitions and, especially, the returning Red Sox. The starting rotation will likely be Buchholz, Porcello, Joe Kelly, (Wade) Miley, and Justin Masterson, while (Brandon) Workman, Steven Wright, Edwin Escobar, and a number of veterans and young pitchers from the minor leagues will battle for spots in the bullpen," Nickel continued.
