Comedian Phil Hartman was remembered Tuesday on what would have been his 65th birthday for his skill at making everyone laugh on such classics as "Saturday Night Live" and "The Simpsons."
Hartman was killed in May 1998 by his wife, Blynn Omdahl, who then killed herself.
His birthday encouraged fans to remember Hartman’s comedy genius. Even 15 years after his death, film societies still organize tributes (Denver Film Society did one in August) and people post clips and jokes all over social media.
Comedian Jon Lovitz tweeted a tribute in May about his best friend:
Hartman was remembered on Yahoo with a tribute featuring one of Hartman’s favorite "SNL" clips, and this tribute from Lovitz: “I loved him. I idolized him. … He could do anything. He would just get into something and learn everything about it and go on to the next. In my life there is just a huge gap that will never be filled and part of me just feels lost.”
Even without the reminder of the comedian’s 65th birthday this month, Hartman’s name pops up on social media regularly. In August, this tweet highlighted his "SNL" audition tape:
And in June, this fan posted a clip of Hartman pulling out laughs with simple words:
