What a scoop! Australian photojournalist Peter Steer suddenly found himself part of a news story when he was carjacked by a man on a motorcycle who hailed him and then took his news vehicle at gunpoint.
"I got to a little town called Mundi and a chap on a Harley (Davidson) sort of pulled me over, I thought there might have been something wrong with my car," Steer told
Yahoo News.
The suspect told Sheer he had injured a woman at a house and spoke to him on camera.
"He got off his bike and approached me and said 'I've got a story for you.' I said 'Well mate, you better hurry because I'm going to a shooting,' and he said, 'Mate, I'm the shooter. It's been terrible. I am remorseful,'" said Steer.
Mediaite reported that the suspect, though, shortly had a change heart, jumped into Steer's news unit and pulled out a gun before driving off. The man eventually crashed the vehicle at a service station in Eumundi.
The news vehicle sustained heavy damage.
Authorities said a 45-year-old suspect has been charged in Maroochydore Magistrates Court.
"Just with his actions itself with the vehicle, could have caused astronomical damage to the surrounding area," Inspector Michael Miley told Yahoo News.
According to social media, Steer earned the day off for the ordeal.
