Baseball analyst Peter Gammons has backed away from comments he made earlier comparing New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez with the Boston Marathon bombing suspects.
Gammons made the comments about Rodriguez while talking with Mike Lupica on ESPN Radio on Thursday. Gammons told Lupica that executives with the New York Yankees believe Rodriguez "wants to blow up the world. You know, he's like the marathon bombers. It's just, he's going to get them."

The comments followed Rodriguez storming out of a Major League baseball arbitration hearing this week as the Yankee star fights what could be a career-ending 211-game ban for using performance enhancing drugs,
according to ESPN.
The
Boston Marathon bombing in April killed three people in wounded 264 in downtown Boston. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 29, who died in a later shootout with police, and
19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, were identified as suspects in the bombing.
Craig Calcaterra, of NBC Sports.com, was one of the first to respond to the comments.
USA Today Sports writer Nate Scott said he did not believe Gammons was trying to be insensitive, but picked the wrong analogy to describe Rodriguez's behavior.
"It appears that Gammons was merely trying to find an example of a person trying to take everyone down with him, a la 'The Dark Knight' (movie quote) – 'some people just want to see the world burn.' By trying to find a real-life example, however, he overstepped the line of good taste," he said.

Gammons quickly tried to do some damage control on Twitter.
