A pet toy poodle seized by a hawk was found alive the next day, miraculously surviving the odds and was reunited with her owner. The 16-year-old dog, Porschia, is deaf and nearly blind. When she was snatched up from her home in Whitehall, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, owner Deborah Falcione assumed the worst.
"I was crying my eyes out. She is my life. My dogs are my life," Falcione told WTAE.
The distraught owner searched the neighborhood but was unable to find her beloved pet poodle. She assumed the hawk had killed her and would never be found again. The following day, a call came informing Falcione that Porschia was alive. The dog had been picked up by a neighbor four blocks from her home and was at the Banfield Pet Hospital.
"I said, 'That's impossible!' She could not have survived 28 hours out in the bitter cold weather, in 10-degree weather," Falcione said. She went down to the animal hospital skeptical but sure enough, there was Porschia, waiting to be picked up.
"How she got away, I'll have no idea. How she survived it, I will never know. But I know one thing: By the grace of God, this dog is still alive," Falcione said. "All I can do is thank God for the miracle, because I don't know how else this dog could have survived."
Porschia suffered no serious injuries. She was lethargic, and the veterinarian kept her in a heating tank, but other than that she was fine.
