Pennsylvania Manhunt: 2 State Troopers Hurt Falling From Tree

Friday, 03 October 2014 10:04 AM EDT

Two state police troopers searching the northeastern Pennsylvania woods for fugitive Eric Frein were injured when they fell out of a tree.

The Associated Press reported police as saying the troopers from the Harrisburg barracks entered a wooden hunting blind attached to a tree about 20 feet off the ground to make sure the structure was unoccupied, but the floor collapsed and both men fell to the ground.

Trooper Thomas Kelly said the two were flown to Lehigh Valley Medical Center, where they were treated and released.

Hundreds of law enforcement officers have been searching since Sept. 12 for 31-year-old Frein following a shooting that killed one trooper and injured another outside the Blooming Grove barracks.

Frein is believed to be hiding in a remote area near his parents’ home in Canadensis, Pennsylvania. The public has been warned to be on the lookout for Frein, and at least one person reported seeing him since Monday afternoon.

Authorities say Frein, a survivalist, has a vendetta against law enforcement and in the past expressed a desire to kill officers or commit mass murder.

Frein is now one of the FBI's 10 most-wanted fugitives with a $100,000 reward for any information leading to his arrest.

Deer hunting season kicks off in the area this weekend, and hunters are being asked to remain vigilant.
