Prominent Korean comedian Park Ji-sun and her mother have both died from apparent suicide. Police discovered the 35-year-old comedian and her mother lying dead alongside one another at their home in Seoul on Monday after being alerted by Park's father, who was unable to contact either one of them, according to The Star.
"No foul play is suspected, as there was no sign of a break-in and what was presumed to be a suicide note was found," Seoul Mapo Police Station said in a statement.
Park had been suffering from a skin condition, which had deteriorated in recent months, and had been living with her mother. In the suicide note that had reportedly been written by Park's mother, she indicated that she could not let her daughter suffer alone.
Park had reportedly battled a sun allergy which also made her skin sensitive to cosmetics. In an interview, she once expressed disappointment that she could no longer wear cosmetics.
"I feel sad I couldn't perform more comedy acts with makeup," she said, according to Yonhap News Agency.
Park's family have requested that an autopsy not be conducted to determine her and her mother's cause of death. Police said they will continue to investigate the exact cause of death.
Park launched her career as an actress but turned to comedy in 2007, after passing an audition at local broadcaster KBS. Her versatility earned her an award for new comedians during her first year in the local circuit. Park went on to win several other awards during her career. She was also an in-demand emcee for K-pop showcases and press calls for television programs.
