A Palm Beach County deputy who stopped a driver for allegedly going 31 miles over the speed limit in a school zone this week was then told by the 62-year-old woman, "No wonder you people get shot."
"This is a deputy trying to make sure that children are safe and don't get killed in a school zone. He was
doing his job," Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw told WPTV. "And I think it's totally unacceptable for somebody to talk to a deputy or any law enforcement officer like that, when that's what they are trying to do to protect our children."
The woman's conversation with the deputy was shared by the police department in a YouTube video taken from the officer's dash camera.
The ticket carries a $606 fine, WPTV said.
Many people commented on the video applauding the police officer's professionalism, and others thought the speeder should have received a reckless driving ticket for going 31 miles over the posted speed limit.
"Wow, this cop has patience when this lady has NONE!" one person wrote.
When the woman made the comment about police officers getting shot and called the officer a name, he replied, "OK, thank you ma'am. I appreciate that."
She said, "You're welcome. Have a nice day," and he answered, "Drive safe."
Many online were horrified at the woman's attitude, although some took the opportunity to espouse anti-police sentiments.
