O'Reilly Responds to Stewart 'Endangered Millionaires' Bit

Friday, 23 September 2011 11:33 AM EDT

Fox News host Bill O’Reilly struck back at “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart Thursday after Comedy Central’s liberal icon sarcastically described millionaires as an endangered species in a bit about the GOP’s reaction to President Barack Obama’s proposed tax hikes for the wealthy.

Stewart had also poked fun at O’Reilly’s suggestion that he would quit his Fox duties if Obama’s tax hikes became too “oppressive.”

“If you tax achievement, some of the achievers are going to pack it in,” O’Reilly had said. “I don’t know how much longer I can do this.”

“I shouldn’t poke fun, he’s just standing up for a shrinking, exploited minority,” said Stewart.

“That’s absolutely correct — I’m standing up for Americans with common sense,” O’Reilly responded, before describing Stewart as “a sushi-eating, latte-drinking New Yorker . . . dedicated to mocking the hand that feeds him.”

O’Reilly concluded: “I and several others have come to the conclusion that the liberal tenet of taxing the rich and spending like Arab sheiks may not be the solution to fixing a moribund economy.”
