Ordering a beer at Philadelphia's Citizen Bank Park while the Phillies play is about to get a little easier if you have a smartphone in certain sections, according to Philly.com.
The ballpark's food and beverage provider Aramark is experimenting with using Apple Business Chat that will allow iPhone-equipped fans in a handful of sections to order water and beer from their seats, Philly.com wrote.
Starting Friday, fans in sections 142, 143, 144, and 145 will be able to order their "iBeer" using the chat device and pay for it through Apple Pay, Philly.com wrote. The website said that ballpark will be the first in the Major Leagues to try the feature.
"We're excited to be working with the Phillies and Apple to pilot this food and beverage delivery service," Carl Mittleman, president of Aramark's Sports & Entertainment division, said in a statement. "As fans' expectations and behaviors change, Aramark continues to be on the forefront of introducing innovative, fan-friendly offerings to help transform the ballpark dining experience.
"Utilizing Apple Business Chat as an ordering option is a logical next step. By doing so, we're able to integrate an easily accessible digital technology that enables fans to seamlessly order from their mobile devices while continuing to watch the game or socialize with friends, he added.
The pilot program, which will run for 10 games at Citizen Bank Park from July 20 through Aug. 5, will work over several steps. Fans will use their iPhone camera app to scan QR code on the seat back, according to the Aramark statement.
They will then follow prompts on the messenger text screen to place the order, pay for it with Apple Pay and the beverage will then be delivered to the fan's seat. Aramark states.
"We look forward to joining Aramark in testing this mobile delivery service, an innovative use of Apple Business Chat that further enhances the food and beverage experience at Citizens Bank Park," David Buck, the Phillies' executive vice president, said in the statement.
"With this new pilot program, food ordering and delivery is as easy as a text message, and we are excited to be the first sports facility in the country to try out this new technology," Buck continued.
