"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" could add Burt Reynolds to its lineup of stars for the late 1960s-based film led by Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio, Entertainment Weekly magazine reported Tuesday.
Director Quentin Tarantino reportedly is in early talks to add the screen legend, 82, for the part of George Spahn, the blind rancher who owned the property where Charles Manson and his followers were living at the height of their murder spree in 1969, the magazine said.
The movie centers around DiCaprio as Rick Dalton, the former star of a western TV series, and Pitt as his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth as they struggle to make it through a changing Hollywood in 1969.
Deadline.com reported in March that Oscar-nominated actress Margot Robbie was in negotiations to play murdered actress Sharon Tate in the film. In the film, Tate is Dalton's next-door neighbor, Entertainment Weekly said.
The magazine wrote that Tarantino is also in talks with Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, and Michael Madsen for small or cameo roles in the movie as well.
Reynold was nominated for a best supporting actor Academy Award for his role in the 1997 movie "Boogie Nights," and won a Golden Globe for the performance. Over the years, he has also starred in such iconic films as 1972's "Deliverance," "The Longest Yard" in 1974, and "Smokey and the Bandit" in 1977.
Tarantino said last month that the "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" script was "probably the closest [film] to 'Pulp Fiction' that I've ever done," according to The Independent.
The 1994 star-studded cult classic won a best screenplay Academy Award for Tarantino and acting Oscar nominations for Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, and John Travolta. It was also nominated for best film that year.
IndieWire.com reported that the film is expected to start production this summer with a release date of Aug. 9, 2019.
The date marks the 50th anniversary of Tate's death at the hands of Manson's followers, according to People magazine. Tate, 26, was married to director Roman Polanski and was eight months pregnant at the time of her murder.
